Using GIS to Advance Equity

  • Host: N-CATT
  • Date: 18th Apr 2023
  • Time: 3:00 pm

Mapping data is a critical skill for transit agencies to make important planning decisions. The National Center for Applied Transit Technology (N-CATT) aims to provide small-urban and rural transit providers with the basic skills to map the data they need in a way that helps them make informed decisions. This workshop will be broken into three 2-hour sessions on separate topics: Exploring the 2020 Census, Using GIS to Advance Equity, and How to Create Compelling Transit Maps.

This session will focus on how indexes are developed and used for transportation planning, and will teach attendees how to create an index of their own to identify transit-oriented populations. Attendees will learn how to normalize data, perform field calculations, develop indices, and assess the distribution of a variable.
